National Burrito Day is the first Thursday in April − which is Thursday, April 4 in 2024, according to nationaltoday.com.
No one knows for certain who invented the burrito, according to hightidetacobar.com.
The website says burrito translates to “little donkey” in English, stemming from “burro” — which means donkey, and “-ito” which means little. Readers are also reassured that burritos do not contain any donkey products.

The website describes a burrito as: “… a common cylindrical food item of Mexican and American origin consisting of a tortilla wrapped around a mixed filling of such ingredients as meat, cheese, beans, and vegetables.”

Chipotle is promoting an interactive game on its website called “Burrito Vault” at unlockburritoday.com — which gives 53 random customers the chance to win burritos for a year.
The restaurant chain will also give away 100,000 buy-one, get-one free entrée codes April 2 and 3 when the games begins at noon PT both days. The codes are good for National Burrito Day only.
On National Burrito Day, customers can use the code “DELIVER” to score a $0 delivery fee for all Chipotle Rewards members ordering at Chipotle.com, Chipotle.ca and using the Chipotle app.

Join Taco John’s Bigger Bolder Rewards loyalty program by April 3 by downloading the app to score $2 off any Meat and Potato Burrito Combo on April 4 for National Burrito Day. You must sign up and be a rewards member to get the deal. The deal is only redeemable on April 4.
Qdoba is offering a free burrito when you purchase an entrée and a drink in-store and online on National Burrito Day as an exclusive to QDOBA Rewards members. You must sign up by April 3 and be a rewards member to get the deal. The deal is only redeemable on April 4.
Taco Bell customers who use the Taco Bell app can get a free burrito of equal or lesser value for 50% off when buying a burrito in the app on National Burrito Day. Limit one coupon per customer.
Moe’s Southwest Grill is giving customers a buy-one, get-one free burrito or bowl on April 4 when ordering in-store, online or via the Moe’s Rewards App. Not valid with other offers or rewards, or third-party delivery.
Baja Fresh is offering a buy-one, get-one free to Club Baja Rewards members through April 4 for National Burrito Day, using coupon code “BURRITO2024” at checkout. Must be a rewards member to qualify. Must purchase a burrito to receive a burrito of equal or lesser value for free. One coupon per person per visit. Purchases must be made online or via the app.
Pancheros Mexican Grill is giving away 10,000 free burritos April 4 to customers who follow them on social media. On National Burrito Day, the chain will post a unique code on Facebook, Instagram and X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.
The chain will drop 2,500 codes at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. CST on a different social network at each time. Fans must download the Pancheros app and a Burritos with Benefits account prior to the giveaway. The first 10,000 fans to enter the code into the app will be sent the reward.
El Polo Loco is offering exclusive redemption codes for free burritos or a percentage off a burrito purchase on Instagram April 3. The offers are only valid on Wednesday.
On National Burrito Day, Loco Rewards members receive a buy-one, get-one free burrito of equal or lesser value. Must be a rewards member to participate. Offer not valid on combos and is only good on April 4. The offer may only be used once.

Chuy’s customers who buy a Big As Yo’ Face Burrito on National Burrito Day will be helping a good cause, as $1 from every burrito sold will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
