Justin Gaethje rips into ‘fat’ former UFC champion in 60-second rant… ‘He is so irrelevant’

Justin Gaethje certainly didn’t mince his words as he slammed a former UFC champion for being ‘fat’ and ‘irrelevant’ ahead of his BMF title defense.

Justin Gaethje returns to the octagon this weekend in the ‘people’s main event’ of UFC 300, with ‘The Highlight’ set to defend his silver-plated BMF title belt against former featherweight king Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway.

Jorge Masvidal on what happens ‘If you put BMF against BMF’

The inaugural silver-plated strap was first won by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in 2019, before finding its way into the hands of Justin Gaethje late last year as he landed a picture-perfect high kick to knockout Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.

Speaking to LowKickMMA after the dramatic KO win, Masvidal initially celebrated the lineage of the BMF belt, but also called out Gaethje for a ‘unification’ bout, claiming that such a fight would result in broken bones on the side of ‘The Highlight’:

“Man, if you put BMF against BMF, you put me against Gaethje in there, I will break his f****** eye orbital [bone] and I will f**** chop him up man, so hopefully that can happen at some point.”

Justin Gaethje slams ‘fat’ and ‘irrelevant’ Jorge Masvidal in 60-second rant

Ahead of UFC 300 and his first official BMF title defense against the former featherweight champion, Gaethje certainly didn’t mince his words as he responded to Masvidal’s claim about breaking his orbital bone.

Speaking to former double champion Daniel Cormier, via his official YouTube channel, Gaethje said that “He’s not in the spotlight no more and the only orbital [bone] he got broken was him against Kamaru [Usman] and I loved to see it.”

“Nothing was more special [to me] than seeing all that mist come off his face when f***** Kamaru put a hole through it, that was one of my favorite nights….He’s fat as f****, I fight at 155lbs so he can f*** off.”

The fan-favorite lightweight theorized that the only reason why Masvidal is coming after him in such a way is because he lost a large amount of money on his fight with friend and teammate Dustin Poirier:

“I think [it’s] because he bet so much money and I f***** took it from him against Poirier, I would be upset about that too. Hopefully he puts a lot of money on this one just not on me. He is so irrelevant right now that’s why he’s saying it so he can become relevant again.”

Masvidal hasn’t competed in the UFC octagon since early 2023, but has a big-time rematch against Nate Diaz in just a few months – albeit this time in the boxing ring.

“He’s fighting Nate Diaz? See I didn’t even know, that’s how irrelevant he is,” laughed Gaethje, before stating that “Neither one of them can f***** box.”

Hero Mark Coleman will wrap BMF belt around UFC 300 winner

When Masvidal won the BMF belt, the silver strap was wrapped around him by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, with Masvidal himself putting the belt on Gaethje after his KO victory.

At the UFC 300 pre-fight press conference, Dana White was asked whether the legendary Mark Coleman could get that honor on Saturday evening, upon the request of both Gaethje and Holloway, to which White simply said: “Done.”

Coleman, the very first UFC heavyweight champion, heroically saved his parents from a house fire back in March and was himself hospitalized for several days after suffering both smoke inhalation and burns during the rescue.

Prior to the UFC 300 press conference, Coleman told MMA Junkie that the support offered by both Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway had “brought a tear to my eye.”

“I’m stoked. If I end up putting the belt on them or whatever else, that’s just icing on the cake. I’m just happy to be there because this is the biggest, baddest, greatest card ever put together and I’m excited about the very first prelim.”

UFC 300 goes down this Saturday from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
