New York Knicks forward Julius Randle will have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, the team announced on Thursday.

What happened: Randle has been sidelined since dislocating his shoulder on Jan. 27 in the Knicks’ win over the Heat. He was rehabbing the shoulder in hopes of avoiding surgery and returning in time for the postseason, but that timeline did not work out. After the upcoming surgery, Randle is slated to be reevaluated in five months.

Injury impact: The fifth-seeded Knicks (44-31) continue to press forward toward the playoffs despite substantial injury holes in their lineup. In addition to Randle, midseason pickup OG Anunoby remains out with an injured right elbow.

New York received a boost on March 27 when center Mitchell Robinson returned to the court after a 50-game absence due a left ankle injury.

Randle, a 2024 All-Star, averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5 assists over 46 games this season.
