Meet the 99-year-old Westvale woman born during Syracuse’s last solar eclipse: Like many people in Central New York, Theresa Capucilli is looking forward to witnessing next week’s total eclipse of the sun. For her, though, it holds added meaning. Capucilli was born on the day of Syracuse’s last total solar eclipse 99 years ago on Jan. 24, 1925. It’s likely her birth came right around the totality.

CNY teacher arraigned on charges she kicked student; dozens show to support her: A Liverpool elementary school teacher pleaded not guilty Thursday night to charges she kicked a student with special needs in December. Dozens of people packed the Salina courtroom in support of the teacher, 47-year-old Melissa Harrington, and many wore yellow in solidarity.

Some cities have dropped ShopSpotter gunshot detection system. Syracuse is sticking with it: Chicago’s mayor announced recently that the city would soon stop using ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system it had deployed for 12 years. Sources: Judah Mintz will not return to Orange next season: Syracuse guard Judah Mintz has played his last game for the Orange, according to two sources with knowledge of Mintz’s plans. Mintz, a 6-foot-3 sophomore who led Syracuse in scoring this past season at 18.8 points per game, will enter his name into the NBA draft, the sources say.
