This Masters grouping could provide plenty of fireworks in first two rounds

The Masters usually gets pretty creative with their groupings for the first and second rounds, and they did not disappoint with their grouping of Jordan Spieth, Sahith Theegala, and Ludvig Aberg. This group could provide some fireworks early in the week.

“Fireworks” can mean certain things to certain people. Certainly, this grouping of three talented players could provide some low scores. It is not unthinkable that one of these three players, perhaps all three, could contend this week.

However, this grouping could also provide fireworks in a different sense as all three are streaky players who can get on hot streaks while also making some big numbers and hitting wild shots.

Of course, no one fits this description more than Jordan Spieth. The 2015 Masters champion is obviously a great player but he is one of the more entertaining players in recent memory with his wild shots and running commentary (often one-sided) with his caddie Michael Greller.

Just last week, Spieth had another one of his adventures as he hit a shot onto the roof of the clubhouse during the 3rd round of the Valero Texas Open. Here is video of the incident via the PGA Tour social media feed:

This episode may have overshadowed Spieth’s first round when his scorecard experienced all the colors of the rainbow with a double bogey and a hole in one. But then again, what else would you expect from Spieth at this point in his career.

His two playing partners are not lacking for entertainment value, either. Sahith Theegala is an exciting young player. He has one tour victory and a number of experts are picking him as a sneaky good under-the-radar player after his top-10 finish in the Masters last year and solid play as of late.

Ludvig Aberg is an exciting young talent who has burst onto the scene and is currently in the top-10 in the world. He has a reputation as being a long hitter off the tee which will help him at Augusta. However, he is a rookie and it is rare for a player to do well right away at Augusta National. His playing partner Spieth is one of the few who has had success right away.

This is a grouping that could fly under the radar, especially when you have a group with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy (three of the presumptive favorites), but this is a group that could have big and small numbers, and lots of entertainment through the first two rounds.
