This Week in ACC Women’s Lacrosse

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse has reached its penultimate weekend of league play. Syracuse (7-0) can clinch a share of the regular-season title with a win Saturday at Clemson. Boston College (6-1) and Notre Dame (5-2) remain in the title mix.

There is one matchup of ranked teams this weekend, as No. 3 Boston College travels to No. 11 Virginia at 4 p.m. Saturday. ACC Network will broadcast the game.

Six ACC programs are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll, including three in the top 10, with Syracuse (2), Boston College (3), Notre Dame (5), Virginia (11), North Carolina (16) and Duke (T25). That is the most of all conferences.

In the NCAA’s latest RPI, released Monday, five teams are among the top 15: Syracuse (3), Notre Dame (8), Virginia (10), Boston College (11) and North Carolina (15).

Noting ACC Women’s Lacrosse

• The ACC Tournament begins Sunday, April 21, with first-round games at campus sites (seeds 7-10). The top six seeds earn a bye into the quarterfinals, and the final three rounds will be played April 24-28 at American Legion Stadium in Charlotte.

• While road teams were 18-7 through the first five weeks of league play, home teams dominated and won nine of 10 ACC games over the last two weeks.

• The ACC boasts five of the nation’s top scoring offenses, with Boston College (3rd, 17.6/game), Notre Dame (4th, 17.2/game), Syracuse (9th, 16.1) and Clemson (15th, 15.4).

• Boston College ranks second nationally in scoring defense at 7.6 goals allowed per game, while Notre Dame is 14th (8.9).

• Duke’s Katie DeSimone ranks third nationally in goals this season with 57, while BC’s Rachel Clark is tied for fifth (54) and Louisville’s Kokoro Nakazawa is tied for 10th (50).

• UVa’s Morgan Schwab owns a nation-best 48 assists, while BC’s Mckenna Davis (44) is third and Virginia Tech’s Kayla Downey is seventh (40).

• Notre Dame’s Kasey Choma owns 230 career goals, which is most among active ACC players and 10th in ACC history.

• 26 ACC players were named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America Team, including five first teamers: Sydney Scales (BC), Kasey Choma and Jackie Wolak (ND) and Katie Goodale (SU).

• Five ACC head coaches rank among the top 25 active Division I head coaches in wins: UNC’s Jenny Levy (2nd, 419), Duke’s Kerstin Kimel (6th, 349), ND’s Christine Halfpenny (21st, 192), UL’s Scott Teeter (24th, 186) and BC’s Acacia Walker-Weinstein (25th, 185).

• 25 ACC players have been named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Watch List. The is the most of any league.
