New $200 vodka features an out-of-this-world ingredient

Far out.

Shooting Star Vodka has given a whole new meaning to “on the rocks” — which is also how the makers suggest you drink it — by infusing its brew with a meteorite discovered in 1977.

Other products have filtered through a meteorite, but Shooting Star Vodka is the first Ultra-Premium vodka to be infused with the space rock giving it a special taste and texture.

The liquor landed in the U.S. on Friday, the first bright idea launched in the country from Pegasus Distillerie.

The premium organic spirits brand was founded in France’s Burgundy region in 2021 and named after one of the largest constellations in the sky.

“As we explored ways to embody the brand and bottle stars, incorporating a meteorite was the closest we could get!” founder and CEO Maxime Girardin, 27, told The Post.

Shooting Star Vodka is made from organic, locally sourced wheat and botanicals from France that’s been distilled using iStill — the most advanced distilling technology — and slowly reduced over a month-long period with pure spring water from the well 150 meters below the distillery in Burgundy under a cathedral of zinc and glass.

This state-of-the-art process allows the makers to concoct small batches, creating uniquely refined flavors and aromas.

The product is then aged for at least one year in a terracotta jar while the meteorite is suspended in the middle as it partially dissolves into the liquid.

Shooting Star Vodka has a smooth, round mouthfeel with a unique sweet note that complements the minerality infused from the meteorite.

“The presence of chondrite, a mineral unique to meteorites, in the final product, provides a unique mineral flavor that complements the existing smooth and refined texture that characterizes our vodkas,” Girardin explained.

The minerality also allows the flavors to linger on your tongue for longer than the usual splash of vodka.

Only 4,806 bottles — sold for $180 to $200 — have been made, so you better gravitate towards the checkout soon if you want a sip of space.
