The Best 420 Products for the Design Connoisseur
In celebration of truly the most chill and festive of unofficial holidays, we’re spotlighting a curated selection of cannabis brands representing an elevated state of mind paired alongside a higher taste in design. Whether you’re a seasoned session cannoisseur or just a design lover dabbling in the plant-derived lifestyle, check out our baker’s dozen of cannabis gear, accessories, fashion, and other fine accoutrements with a little flower power thrown in for good measure.
Like a set of matryoshka dolls, Gossamer’s jade colored 3-piece set – a lidded ashtray, standing pipe, and one-hitter – satisfyingly fit together to form one neat package. It’s the perfect accessory for those times when your parents inform you they’re on their way for a visit. Just hide away your stash, drop your keys and pocket change on top, and get ready to explain it’s just your catchall dish, and nothing as unbecoming as what they really suspect.
420 is traditionally a “treat yo self!” kind of date, but if we were to gift a favorite plant-loving friend some green for the holidays we’d seriously consider this tastefully packaged trio of eighths curated by A Golden State’s Head Cultivator himself. There’s certainly enough within the $135 set to go around, so don’t hesitate to invite yourself over to sample and celebrate together.
Brooklyn-based and queer-owned design studio Old Donna specializes in designing small batch glassware that veers far from the stoner stereotype. The brand’s collection of lab-quality borosilicate glass water bongs all share the same ergonomic and easy-to-clean shape, but we think it looks especially like a vintage collectible in the burnt umber edition above.
The Good Design Award winning vaporizer designed by Michael Young Studio is not only one of the more discreet and pocketable vaporizers out there, but this special set includes everything for B.Y.O.F. (bring your own flower) sessions except for the plant matter itself. Packaged with a 16-stick home fill system and 4 packs of Flowersticks, Omura’s vape delivers a gentle inhale, heating dry herb just hot enough to release all of the good stuff without all of the cough-inducing smoke.
Cannabis is notorious for awakening a near insatiable case of the munchies, and top-shelf retailer Cookies amusingly leans into the plant’s reputation with these amusing pint sized ice cream containers. Used in lieu of the glass containers typically used to package and sell dry herb, the only problem here is you’re bound to feel disappointed when you’ve finished indulging in the contents and realize “a real pint of ice cream would be really nice right now.”
Argentine-Spanish designer Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez’s stainless steel ashtray is reputedly inspired by “the simplistic design of industrial objects found in public spaces” but if you ask us, its also giving off some strong 1980s-era Ed Dillinger/TRON corporate villain vibes in its perfectly machined red and black composition. Either way, we love its sharply precise X marks-the-spot opening designed to direct wayward ashes within.
It’s no coincidence this Milanese brand’s newest drop of smoking accessories arrives aligned with Fuorisalone 2024 during Milan Design Week yet again. The design week is nearly as renown for its orbit of fun and festivities as it is for the designs unveiled each year. Following the brand’s two previous ceramic collections revealed at Milan Design Week, Weed’d’s Design Director Simone Bonanni returns with a trio of colorfully amorphous ceramic ashtrays, each whimsically bordering on abstraction.
Here’s an accessory from the same folks who brought us the borosilicate glass bongs that made our 420 fave’s list last year. The inconspicuously sized – yet colorful – carrying case is designed to store away the essentials: two jays, a standard lighter, and nothing more but good vibes. No need to ever worry about losing the valuable contents within, the 2-piece case houses a pair of strong mini magnets to keep a lid (and prying eyes) out of your pre-rolled plans. An airtight and smell-proof silicone seal additionally prevents anyone from nosing around.
Milton Glaser combined three letters and a heart graphic in 1976 and created one of the most iconic designs ever. Reappropriated with a big apple of a completely different sort – the apple pipe – this t-shirt becomes an ode (and instructions) to everyone who has had to resort to the time-honored tradition of carving out a bowl from a piece of fruit.
Many vapes look like they were assembled from the leftover parts of a miniature Dyson stick vacuum and mouthpiece stolen from a wind instrument. Vessel’s Wood Series Vape on the other hand is constructed with genuine walnut wood and slate anodized aluminum, giving it an air of sophistication worthy of a tailored coat pocket rather than clownish cargo pants.
Seth Rogan’s reputation as a funny fella might soon be outpaced by his growing repute as an accomplished ceramicist with a knack for connecting the dots between mid-century aesthetics and a modern day legalized lifestyle. Just check out his elegant set of three nesting stoneware ashtrays. So neat, so orderly! Inspired by the comedian’s vintage ashtray collection, each piece is hand glazed in an organic moss finish evocative of some of our favorite Japanese earthenware. We imagine Seth wouldn’t protest if we bought these bowls for the purpose of filling with soy sauce instead of ash catching duty, a credit to their pleasing design.
Once you turn this e-rig vaporizer around and hide away its distracting branding, this session piece could easily be mistaken for a stylish essential oil diffuser or rechargeable lantern light, especially so in its oak option. Designed to work with 510-thread vape cartridges or your own preference in concentrate, the O.pen Sesh’s 1,000mAh battery delivers up to 250 cups per charge to light the way for many days and nights to come.
We can only imagine using a designated setup like this to store and roll your favorite strain(s) of herb feels like an orderly delight compared to the typical shoebox stash. The integrated 7-piece setup is stocked with 3 jars, one tube, tray, and humidity pack, with additional space for any other accessories you’d like to add to the stash. A combination lock takes care of uninvited hands from rummaging within, with a smell-proof travel pouch included to further ensure your business remains your own.
